SPINNERET
Inspired by the tensile strength and construct of a spider’s web, I intended to challenge the expectation and perception most people would have upon seeing the thin cord and assume that it would be too fragile to hold their body weight. The sturdy, wooden frame helps to present the user with temporary reassurance, but still their doubt on the seat’s ability to support their weight would remain. But by leveraging the inherent strength of the nylon rope and reinforcing its strength in how it is woven into the frame, the high-strength nylon cord increases in strength to hold the weight of a person. The Spinneret Chair is woven in a way that increases the total sum of the individual strands to suspend a person in the chair.
